I have the Dio Sabbath on records, his early stuff and solo on cassette tapes and CD's. Saw De Leppard open for Blackfoot back in the day, their High and Dry album. I could go on and on. It's not the point. Being a Dio fan, but NOT fanatic, I heard about his band and thought, hey let's hear it. I listened to one or two tracks on the "tube." Thought, eh, okay. I'll give it a try. First time I listened to it, I was not impressed. Maybe because of the whole "Dio" thing. I don't know. So I set the CD aside for six months and was about to stow it upon the derelict yard of CD's, and thought to myself, give it one more listen. A second listen. And upon listening to it, I thought, "What the eff was wrong with me?"This is an excellent album. If you are a Dio fan, or fanatic, step away from the whole Dio thing. And listen. It's an OUTSTANDING album. Is every song "GREAT?" Depends on the listener, but of course not. There have been a handful of Dio songs I didn't like, and it took me awhile to like his ELF stuff. But this CD taken as a whole? This would have been BLISTERINGLY good back in the day.So give it a try; if not by buying it, but by listening to some tracks on the "tube" first. Put Dio aside and listen to this for what it is. Th funny thing is, that back in the day, when Dio's first album, Holy Diver came out, the first thing that I thought of at the time was that Vivian Campbell was Dio's Randy Rhodes. May not be accurate to Rhodes fans, but that was my first take back in '83.
